What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, or blood. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills susceptible bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that can otherwise resist certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be decided by the prescriber. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, and pain or redness at the injection site may occur. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or a widespread rash.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor if there is liver disease, kidney disease, a bleeding or clotting problem, or a history of severe antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for a period advised by the doctor after the last dose. Use only under medical supervision.
