What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, or bloodstream. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills susceptible bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that can resist some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be decided by the prescriber. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early without medical advice.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, pain at the injection site, and temporary changes in liver tests or blood counts may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other antibiotics, and about liver disease, kidney disease, bleeding or clotting problems. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised by the doctor, as cefoperazone may cause an alcohol-related reaction. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, unusual bleeding, or severe or bloody diarrhoea.
