What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How to take/use it
Reconstitute the dry syrup exactly as directed on the label or by the pharmacist. Shake well before each dose and measure it with a proper measuring device. Give it at evenly spaced times as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share this medicine.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache may occur. Skin rash can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
