What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, when caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming a protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take the tablet with food unless the prescriber advises otherwise. For a dispersible tablet, follow the package instructions for dispersing it before taking it.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the prescriber about kidney disease or previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash.
