What is it used for?
Sacubitril 49 mg + valsartan 51 mg is used to treat certain types of chronic heart failure. It helps reduce strain on the heart and may lower the risk of heart-failure-related hospitalisation and cardiovascular death when prescribed as part of appropriate treatment.

How does it work?
Sacubitril helps increase substances that relax blood vessels and reduce salt and fluid retention. Valsartan blocks a hormone effect that can narrow blood vessels and put extra strain on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and at the same times each day. Do not stop it or change the dose without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the prescriber or pharmacist. Do not take it with an ACE inhibitor unless specifically instructed; a suitable gap is required when switching between these medicines.

Common side effects
Dizziness, low blood pressure, cough, increased potassium levels, and changes in kidney function may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, high potassium levels, or previous swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema). Seek urgent medical help for swelling or difficulty breathing. It should not be used during pregnancy and may require monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised by a doctor.
