What is it used for?
Rosuvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol, especially LDL (bad) cholesterol, and to help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.
How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme in the liver involved in making cholesterol. This lowers LDL cholesterol and can modestly increase HDL (good) cholesterol.
How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water and take it at about the same time each day. Continue a healthy diet and do not stop treatment without medical advice.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, constipation, dizziness, and muscle aches or weakness may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver or kidney disease, thyroid problems, or a history of muscle problems. Seek medical advice promptly for unexplained or severe muscle pain, weakness, fever, or dark urine. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, as some can increase the risk of side effects. Liver tests may be advised during treatment.
