What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as certain infections of the ear, throat, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from making their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor. Reconstitute the dry syrup exactly as directed on the label, shake well before each use, and measure each dose with an appropriate measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Follow the label or pharmacist's instructions for storage after mixing.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a previous serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillins or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
