What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as certain infections of the ear, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and teeth. It does not treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall, which stops the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at evenly spaced times, and complete the full course even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty or a severe rash. Contact a doctor if diarrhoea is severe, persistent or contains blood. Tell the doctor about other medicines and any history of kidney problems or glandular fever.
