What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, such as certain infections of the ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall, which stops the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed by a doctor. Follow the prescribed schedule and complete the course, even if symptoms improve. If this is a dispersible tablet, dissolve it in the recommended amount of water before taking it, as directed on the label or by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe or blistering rash. Contact a healthcare professional for severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the doctor about any history of kidney problems or antibiotic allergies.
