What is it used for?
Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the skin, throat, ears, urinary tract and respiratory tract. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. As this is a dispersible tablet, use it as directed on the product label or by the pharmacist. Do not share this medicine with others.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and indigestion. Mild skin rash may also occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is an allergy to cephalexin, other cephalosporin antibiotics or penicillins, or if there is kidney disease. Seek medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially if it contains blood or mucus.
