What is it used for?
Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the skin, throat, ears, urinary tract and respiratory tract. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from making their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take this capsule by mouth exactly as prescribed and swallow it with water. It may be taken with or without food. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and indigestion. Skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cephalexin, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin antibiotics, unless advised by a healthcare professional. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Contact a healthcare professional for severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, as this may occur during or after antibiotic treatment. Tell the prescriber about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea.
