What is it used for?
Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the skin, throat, ears, urinary tract and respiratory tract. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Follow the instructions for dispersing the DT tablet if provided, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not share this medicine or use leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cephalexin, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin antibiotics without medical advice. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
