What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with tazobactam is a prescription injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps ceftriaxone work against bacteria that produce enzymes capable of reducing the effect of some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be decided by the prescriber. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early unless advised.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site; diarrhoea; nausea; rash; and changes in liver or blood test results. Serious allergic reactions can occur rarely.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics, and about liver, kidney or gallbladder problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Contact a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, as antibiotic-associated colitis can occur. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
