What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin, blood, bones or joints, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against bacteria that can otherwise resist certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be followed exactly as prescribed. Do not stop treatment early unless advised by the doctor.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash and headache may occur. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin reaction.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to ceftriaxone, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics, and about liver, kidney or gallbladder problems. Contact the doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially during or after treatment. Use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in newborn babies only on medical advice. Take only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection and only as prescribed.
