What is it used for?
Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to help prevent chest pain caused by angina.
How does it work?
It relaxes and widens blood vessels, helping blood flow more easily. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the workload on the heart.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.
Common side effects
Ankle or foot swelling, headache, dizziness, flushing, tiredness, palpitations, nausea and stomach discomfort.
Precautions
Use only under medical advice if there is very low blood pressure, liver disease or heart problems. Rise slowly if dizziness occurs. Seek urgent medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, worsening chest pain or signs of an allergic reaction. Discuss use during pregnancy or breastfeeding with a doctor.
