What is it used for?
Rabeprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid, helping treat acidity, heartburn and acid reflux (GERD). It is also used for stomach or duodenal ulcers and may be combined with antibiotics to treat Helicobacter pylori infection, as prescribed.

How does it work?
It blocks a stomach enzyme called the proton pump, reducing the production of stomach acid.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed or directed on the label. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Follow the prescribed timing and duration, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain and gas.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies to rabeprazole or other acid-reducing medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and liver disease. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent symptoms. Long-term use may require medical monitoring, especially for low magnesium or vitamin B12. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, particularly warfarin, digoxin, high-dose methotrexate and some HIV medicines.
