What is it used for?
Povidone iodine ointment is an antiseptic used to help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes, burns and other superficial wounds.
How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or reduces many bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.
How to take/use it
Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer as directed on the label or by a healthcare professional. Wash hands before and after use. For external use only.
Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, itching or dryness may occur. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation or an allergic reaction develops.
Precautions
Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other internal areas. Do not use on deep or extensive wounds, serious burns or animal bites without medical advice. Seek advice before use on large areas, for prolonged periods, in infants, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if there is thyroid disease or iodine sensitivity.
