What is it used for?
Used to treat certain vaginal infections caused by bacteria or parasites, including mixed infections, when prescribed by a healthcare professional.
How does it work?
Povidone iodine acts as an antiseptic against many germs. Ornidazole works against certain parasites and bacteria that can cause infection.
How to take/use it
Use only in the form and by the route prescribed. Follow the product label or doctor’s instructions, and do not use it for longer than advised. Do not swallow a product meant for local use.
Common side effects
Local burning, irritation, itching or discomfort may occur. Nausea, a metallic taste or dizziness may occur with ornidazole-containing products.
Precautions
Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine, iodine or ornidazole. Seek medical advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if there is thyroid disease, liver disease or a history of seizures or other neurological problems. Stop use and seek advice if severe irritation, rash or worsening symptoms occur.
