What is it used for?
Sodium picosulfate is a stimulant laxative used for short-term relief of occasional constipation.
How does it work?
It stimulates the bowel to increase its movement and helps more water remain in the stool, making it easier to pass.
How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Do not use it for longer than recommended, and drink adequate fluids unless fluid restriction has been advised.
Common side effects
Abdominal cramps, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea, bloating and increased bowel movements. Excessive use may cause dehydration or changes in body salts.
Precautions
Do not use without medical advice if there is severe or unexplained abdominal pain, vomiting, suspected bowel obstruction or blood in the stool. Avoid prolonged or frequent use, as it may worsen bowel problems or cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Seek medical advice if constipation persists or keeps returning.
