What is it used for?
Levofloxacin IV infusion is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections when treatment through a vein is needed. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills bacteria by blocking enzymes that bacteria need to copy and repair their genetic material.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and other medical factors. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping and pain or redness at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, heart rhythm problems, diabetes, seizures, tendon problems or myasthenia gravis, and about all medicines being used. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe dizziness or confusion, an irregular heartbeat, severe or persistent diarrhoea, or signs of a serious allergic reaction. Avoid strenuous exercise if tendon pain develops. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if specifically advised by a doctor.
