What is it used for?
Pantoprazole 40 mg IV reduces excess stomach acid. It is used in hospitals for acid-related conditions such as acidity, acid reflux (GERD) and ulcers when treatment by mouth is not suitable.
How does it work?
It blocks the stomach’s acid-producing proton pumps, thereby reducing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. It is not meant for self-administration. The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated and the medical advice provided.
Common side effects
Headache, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach discomfort, gas and irritation or pain at the injection site may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to pantoprazole or similar medicines, liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Inform the healthcare provider about all medicines being used, especially blood thinners and high-dose methotrexate. Prolonged or repeated treatment may rarely cause low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels. Seek medical attention for severe diarrhoea, rash, swelling or breathing difficulty.
