What is it used for?
Pantoprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and treat acidity, heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be prescribed for stomach or duodenal ulcers and other acid-related conditions.
How does it work?
It reduces the production of acid in the stomach by blocking the stomach's acid-producing proton pumps.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the gastro-resistant tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or break it. Follow the prescribed timing and do not stop treatment without medical advice.
Common side effects
Headache, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, gas and constipation may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies, liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being used. Long-term use may affect vitamin B12 or magnesium levels and should be medically monitored. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent symptoms.
