What is it used for?
Ondansetron is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, including those related to surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
How does it work?
It blocks serotonin signals that can trigger nausea and vomiting in the brain and digestive system.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. It may be taken with or without food. Do not take more or use it for longer than directed. Follow the specific instructions for orally disintegrating tablets, if applicable.
Common side effects
Headache, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, tiredness and flushing may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of heart rhythm problems, low potassium or magnesium levels, liver disease, or an allergy to ondansetron. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially medicines that affect heart rhythm or serotonin levels. Seek medical help for fainting, a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe allergic symptoms, or unusual muscle stiffness, agitation or fever.
