What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ears, throat, airways, urinary tract and skin, when prescribed by a healthcare professional. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It works by preventing susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which stops the bacteria from growing and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Reconstitute the dry syrup exactly as directed on the product label or by the healthcare professional. Shake well before each use and measure with an appropriate measuring device. Take it only as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share them with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach discomfort, vomiting and headache. Mild rash may also occur.

Precautions
Inform the healthcare professional about any previous allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or penicillin-type antibiotics, and about kidney problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially if there is blood or mucus.
