What is it used for?
Omeprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and treat acidity, heartburn, acid reflux (GERD), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It may also be used with antibiotics to help treat Helicobacter pylori infection, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks the stomach’s acid-producing proton pumps, reducing the amount of acid released into the stomach. This helps relieve acid-related symptoms and allows ulcers or irritation to heal.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually before a meal. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or duration without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, and gas.

Precautions
Tell a doctor about any allergy to omeprazole or other acid-reducing medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, liver disease, or long-term use. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, or severe or ongoing symptoms.
