What is it used for?
Omeprazole reduces excess stomach acid. It is used mainly to treat acidity, heartburn and acid reflux, and may also be prescribed for stomach or duodenal ulcers and other acid-related conditions.

How does it work?
It blocks the stomach’s acid-producing pumps, reducing the amount of acid released into the stomach. This helps relieve symptoms and allows acid-damaged tissues to heal.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually before food. Swallow the gastro-resistant capsule or tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Follow the product label or doctor’s instructions for the dose and treatment duration.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, gas, diarrhoea or constipation.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, liver disease, or long-term use of omeprazole. Seek medical advice for unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, persistent vomiting or severe symptoms. Long-term use may require medical monitoring. Tell the doctor or pharmacist about other medicines, especially clopidogrel, blood thinners, seizure medicines, HIV medicines or methotrexate.
