What is it used for?
Omeprazole reduces excess stomach acid. It is used for acidity, heartburn, acid reflux (GERD), and stomach or intestinal ulcers.
How does it work?
It blocks the final step of acid production in the stomach, reducing irritation and allowing acid-related damage to heal.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually before food. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not stop a long-term treatment without medical advice.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, gas, diarrhoea, constipation, or vomiting.
Precautions
Tell a doctor about liver disease, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, and mention all medicines being taken. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, or persistent symptoms. Long-term use should be medically supervised.
