What is it used for?
Ranitidine reduces excess stomach acid. It may be used for acidity, heartburn, acid reflux and some stomach or duodenal ulcers, as directed by a healthcare professional.
How does it work?
It blocks histamine H2 receptors in the stomach, reducing the amount of acid produced.
How to take/use it
Take only as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Do not take more or use it for longer than advised. Swallow with water. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or keep returning.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea and stomach discomfort.
Precautions
Tell a healthcare professional about kidney or liver disease, porphyria, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being used. Seek urgent medical advice for vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss or severe chest or stomach pain. Some ranitidine products have been withdrawn or restricted in many countries; check current local regulatory advice and use only a product supplied through an authorised source.
