What is it used for?
Ofloxacin infusion is an antibiotic used in a hospital or clinic to treat certain serious bacterial infections caused by bacteria sensitive to ofloxacin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ofloxacin stops susceptible bacteria from making and repairing their genetic material, which prevents them from growing and surviving.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and medical advice. Do not self-administer or stop treatment early unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and sleep disturbance may occur. Infusion-site discomfort may also occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about allergy to ofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics, kidney disease, seizures, heart rhythm problems, diabetes, tendon disorders or nerve problems. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe mood or neurological changes, irregular heartbeat, severe allergic symptoms or persistent watery or bloody diarrhoea. Avoid driving if dizzy or affected by vision or nervous-system symptoms.
