What is it used for?
Nimesulide is used for short-term relief of acute pain and inflammation, including painful joint or muscle conditions. It may also help reduce fever.

How does it work?
It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID). It reduces the production of substances in the body that cause pain, swelling and fever.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed, preferably after food, with water. Do not take more than recommended or use it for longer than prescribed. Do not combine it with other painkillers or NSAIDs unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, dizziness and headache. Liver enzyme changes may also occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical advice, especially if there is liver disease, stomach ulcer or bleeding, kidney disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, or an allergy to painkillers. Avoid alcohol. Stop taking it and seek medical help if yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, unusual bleeding, breathing difficulty or a serious skin reaction occurs. It is generally avoided during pregnancy, particularly in the last three months, unless specifically prescribed.
