What is it used for?
Sildenafil is mainly used to treat erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sexual activity). It works only when there is sexual stimulation.

How does it work?
It increases blood flow to the penis by helping relax the blood vessels during sexual stimulation, making an erection easier to achieve and maintain.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed. For erectile dysfunction, it is generally taken before sexual activity. Do not take it more often than advised, and follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Headache, flushing, indigestion, blocked or stuffy nose, dizziness, and changes in vision may occur.

Precautions
Do not take sildenafil with nitrate medicines used for chest pain, or with riociguat, as this can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tell the doctor about heart problems, low blood pressure, or use of alpha-blockers. Seek urgent medical help for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing loss, chest pain, or severe dizziness.
