What is it used for?
This prescription combination is used to treat certain bacterial and parasitic infections, including some mixed intestinal infections that may cause diarrhoea or dysentery. It should be used only when prescribed for a confirmed or suspected infection.
How does it work?
Ofloxacin stops susceptible bacteria from multiplying. Ornidazole damages the genetic material of certain parasites and anaerobic bacteria, helping clear the infection.
How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the recommended course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow with water. Do not take it with antacids or mineral supplements such as iron, calcium or magnesium at the same time; follow the advised time gap. Do not self-medicate for diarrhoea.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, metallic or unpleasant taste and indigestion.
Precautions
Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after the last dose. Inform the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney or liver disease, seizures, heart-rhythm problems, tendon disorders or previous reactions to quinolone antibiotics. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, rash, breathing difficulty, or severe dizziness. This medicine does not treat viral infections.
