What is it used for?
Pantoprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and treat acidity, heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be prescribed for stomach or duodenal ulcers and other acid-related conditions.
How does it work?
It blocks the acid-producing pumps in the stomach, reducing the amount of acid made and helping relieve acid-related symptoms and support healing.
How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the gastro-resistant tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. It is generally taken before food, as directed by the prescriber.
Common side effects
Headache, diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, gas and constipation may occur.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent symptoms. Long-term use should be monitored by a doctor, as it may affect vitamin B12 or magnesium levels and bone health.
