What is it used for?
Fluconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections, including vaginal yeast infections, oral thrush and other susceptible fungal infections.

How does it work?
It blocks the production of an essential part of the fungal cell membrane, helping stop the fungus from growing.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth and swallow with water, with or without food, exactly as prescribed. Do not take extra doses or stop treatment early without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea and indigestion.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is liver or kidney disease, a heart-rhythm problem, or an allergy to antifungal medicines. Fluconazole can interact with several medicines, including warfarin and some medicines affecting heart rhythm. Use during pregnancy only on medical advice. Seek urgent help for severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or an unusual heartbeat.
