What is it used for?
Mupirocin ointment is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo and infected cuts, wounds or other minor skin injuries.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, helping to clear the skin infection.

How to take/use it
For use on the skin only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer exactly as prescribed. Wash hands before and after applying it. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose unless specifically prescribed for that use. Do not share the ointment or cover the area tightly unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Mild burning, stinging, itching, redness or irritation at the application site.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or any ingredient. Stop using it and seek medical advice if severe irritation, rash, swelling or difficulty breathing occurs. Consult a healthcare professional if the infection worsens or does not improve as expected. Use only for the prescribed skin infection; it does not treat fungal or viral infections.
