What is it used for?
Mupirocin 2% is a topical antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo and infected minor cuts or wounds.
How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, helping to clear the skin infection.
How to take/use it
Use only on the skin and apply as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. Clean and dry the affected area before application, and wash hands before and after use. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose unless specifically prescribed for that area.
Common side effects
Mild burning, stinging, itching, redness or irritation at the application site. Skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or any of its ingredients. Stop use and seek medical help if severe irritation, swelling, breathing difficulty or a widespread rash occurs. Do not use for longer than prescribed or on large areas of skin without medical advice. Seek medical advice if the infection worsens or does not improve.
