What is it used for?
Ranitidine injection is used to reduce excess stomach acid in conditions such as acidity, heartburn, stomach ulcers and acid reflux. It may be used when medicine cannot be taken by mouth.
How does it work?
It blocks histamine H2 receptors in the stomach, which reduces the production of stomach acid.
How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection by a doctor or nurse. It should not be self-administered. The dose and duration depend on the condition and should be decided by the treating doctor.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea or constipation, and pain or irritation at the injection site.
Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, a history of acute porphyria, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being used. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, severe rash, confusion, or an irregular heartbeat. Persistent or unexplained stomach symptoms should be medically assessed.
