What is it used for?
Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and calm an overactive immune response in conditions such as severe allergies, asthma, arthritis, autoimmune disorders and some skin conditions. The exact use depends on the condition being treated.

How does it work?
It reduces the activity of substances in the body that cause inflammation and suppresses excessive immune-system activity.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach irritation. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly, especially after longer use, unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Indigestion, increased appetite, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, headache, fluid retention and increased blood sugar may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, mental health problems or any infection. Corticosteroids can reduce resistance to infection and may hide infection symptoms. Avoid close contact with people who have contagious illnesses and check with a doctor before receiving vaccines. Seek medical help for signs of serious infection, severe mood changes, vision problems or allergic reactions.
