What is it used for?
Meropenem injection is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, abdomen, urinary tract, skin and other body areas. It is used only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It kills bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall, helping to stop the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Meropenem is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse, usually in a hospital or clinical setting. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and other medical factors. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain or inflammation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to meropenem, penicillins, cephalosporins or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, seizures or brain-related conditions, and if taking sodium valproate or valproic acid. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, seizures, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
