What is it used for?
Meropenem with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections caused by bacteria that may resist some other antibiotics. It is used only when prescribed and administered by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
Meropenem kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps meropenem work against certain bacteria that can otherwise break down antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and the patient's response. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early unless advised by the doctor.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain, redness or swelling at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin, carbapenem or other antibiotics. The dose may need adjustment in kidney disease. Inform the doctor about a history of seizures or other brain disorders. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, seizures, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for bacterial infections; it does not treat viral infections.
