What is it used for?
Meropenem with tazobactam is a prescription antibiotic injection used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections, including complicated infections affecting the lungs, abdomen, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, or bloodstream, when this treatment is considered appropriate by a doctor.

How does it work?
Meropenem kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect meropenem from some bacterial enzymes that can otherwise make antibiotics less effective.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function, and medical advice. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain, redness or swelling at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems or other antibiotics; kidney disease; seizures or other brain disorders; or current use of valproate medicines. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, seizures, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for bacterial infections as prescribed; it does not treat viral infections.
