What is it used for?
Ampicillin + dicloxacillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. The two antibiotics work against different types of bacteria.
How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and follow the dose and schedule on the label. Swallow with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share or use leftover antibiotics.
Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.
Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the prescriber about liver disease, kidney disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or other medicines being used.
