What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, including some infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissues caused by susceptible bacteria. It may also be used for infections caused by certain resistant Gram-positive bacteria, such as MRSA or VRE, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Linezolid stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, which prevents them from growing and spreading.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not skip doses or use leftover antibiotics. Follow the doctor's instructions if a dose is missed.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and changes in taste may occur. Long or repeated treatment can affect blood cell counts.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about blood disorders, uncontrolled high blood pressure, thyroid problems, seizures, or kidney or liver disease. Linezolid can interact with antidepressants and other medicines that increase serotonin, as well as some medicines for migraine or congestion. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, unusual bruising or bleeding, vision changes, numbness or tingling, or symptoms such as agitation, sweating, fever, tremors or muscle stiffness.
