What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, including some types of pneumonia, skin and soft-tissue infections, and infections caused by resistant bacteria. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and survive.

How to take/use it
Take the tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share it with others or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, and changes in taste may occur. Longer treatment can affect blood counts.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about antidepressants or other medicines that affect serotonin, as serious interactions may occur. Inform the doctor about high blood pressure, blood disorders, or liver problems. During prolonged treatment, blood tests may be needed. Seek medical advice for unusual bruising, persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, vision changes, or severe headache. Avoid self-medication and use only under medical supervision.
