What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including certain types of pneumonia, skin and soft-tissue infections, and infections caused by resistant bacteria such as vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE). It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and survive.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may usually be taken with or without food. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, and changes in taste.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially antidepressants, opioid pain medicines, or other medicines that affect serotonin, and any history of uncontrolled high blood pressure or blood disorders. Prolonged treatment may require blood-count monitoring and can rarely cause nerve or vision problems. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, unusual bruising or bleeding, numbness, vision changes, or symptoms such as agitation, sweating, fever, muscle stiffness, or fast heartbeat.
