What is it used for?
Ursodeoxycholic acid is used for certain liver and bile duct conditions, including primary biliary cholangitis. It may also be used to dissolve selected cholesterol gallstones when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It improves the flow and composition of bile, helping reduce the buildup of harmful bile acids in the liver. It can also reduce cholesterol in bile and help dissolve some cholesterol gallstones.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with or after food if advised. Take it regularly and do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach discomfort, vomiting or constipation may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision, as liver function tests and other monitoring may be needed. Tell the doctor about gallbladder inflammation, blocked bile ducts, severe liver disease or frequent diarrhoea. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or worsening symptoms.
