What is it used for?
Levofloxacin infusion is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary system, skin and other tissues. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops bacteria from making the DNA they need to grow and multiply, helping clear the infection.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection, kidney function and medical advice. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping and pain or redness at the injection site.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to levofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics, kidney problems, heart rhythm problems, seizures, diabetes, or a history of tendon problems. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, severe dizziness, confusion, palpitations, breathing difficulty or a serious skin reaction. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if prescribed. Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizziness or visual problems occur.
