What is it used for?
Levetiracetam is an anti-seizure medicine used to control epilepsy and prevent seizures, including certain focal seizures and some generalized seizures. It may be used alone or together with other anti-seizure medicines.

How does it work?
It helps reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain by acting on a brain protein involved in the release of nerve signals. This helps prevent seizures.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same times each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop taking it suddenly, as seizures may worsen; a doctor should reduce it gradually if stopping is needed.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, nausea, and irritability or other mood changes may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, depression, or other mental health concerns. Seek medical help for severe mood or behaviour changes, thoughts of self-harm, unusual rash or swelling, or difficulty breathing. Avoid driving or operating machinery until its effects are known, as it may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
