What is it used for?
Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine used for the short-term relief of moderate to severe acute pain, such as pain after surgery or injury. It is not generally intended for long-term or minor pain.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Use exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not take more often or for longer than directed. Take with food or milk if it causes stomach upset. Do not take it with other painkillers such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen or aspirin unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Stomach upset, indigestion, nausea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness and drowsiness.

Precautions
It can cause stomach ulcers or bleeding and may affect kidney function. Avoid it or seek medical advice if there is a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, kidney disease, severe dehydration, heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, asthma triggered by painkillers, or use of blood thinners. Avoid during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed, especially after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Seek urgent medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, chest pain, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a serious skin rash.
