What is it used for?
Ketoconazole 2% cream is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, pityriasis versicolor and some yeast-related skin infections. It may also be used for seborrhoeic dermatitis when prescribed.
How does it work?
It stops fungi from making an essential part of their cell membrane, helping to kill the fungus and clear the infection.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the clean, dry affected area exactly as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. Wash hands before and after applying it, unless the hands are being treated. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas.
Common side effects
Mild burning, stinging, itching, redness, dryness or irritation at the application site.
Precautions
Do not use if allergic to ketoconazole or any ingredient in the cream. Avoid contact with the eyes and rinse with clean water if accidental contact occurs. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling, rash or breathing difficulty occurs. Consult a doctor if the infection worsens or does not improve as expected.
